Buffalo River | East London
Buffalo River | East London
The Buffalo River offers some of the best rock climbing in East London. The climbing generally lends itself to traditional climbing (more than 500 trad lines), but there are about 10 sport lines. The Buffalo is a series of dolerite out crops set in thick bush. There are paths to all the crags. Most of the routes are between 10 & 20m The longest is 84m. There are some multi-pitch routes. Most routes are crack climbs.
The Buffalo offers all year round climbing. Winter has low rain fall & is very mild. In summer there are plenty of crags with shade all day. It may become humid on hot days after rain. The rock dries quickly after rain.
This part of the Buffalo River was explored & discovered by Allen Luck in his teens. The farm where he grew up is just over the Mount Coke Road. He & his father hunted & fished all over the climbing areas. A big thanks goes to Allen for discovering all the crags & for cutting paths to them. This is his area.
